GRAND FORKS, N.D. -- University of North Dakota Director of Athletics Brian Faison announced today that Deputy Athletics Director Daniella Irle/Senior Women’s Administrator has been offered and accepted the position of Director of Athletics for Knox College.
As director of athletics at Knox, which is located in Galesburg, Ill., Irle will be responsible for the organization and supervision of 20 NCAA Division III teams, the management of athletic and recreation facilities, and an athletics staff serving 400 student-athletes per year.
“We are happy and excited for Daniella,” said Faison. “It has been a long-term goal of hers to be an athletics director. Knox College is getting a special person. Daniella has been an outstanding administrator at UND, playing a major role in the program’s transition to Division I, serving as Senior Women’s Administrator, guiding the development of student-athlete support services, assisting with conference membership issues, ensuring departmental compliance with Title IX, developing and growing relationships within the campus community and providing support and direction for our student-athletes and our coaches.”
A member of UND Athletics' senior administrative staff since August 2008, Irle was promoted to Deputy Director of Athletics in May 2013. She also served as senior woman administrator (SWA) for UND Athletics.
Irle had served as senior associate athletics director for internal operations and senior woman administrator since June 2010. She previously served at UND as associate athletics director for internal operations and senior woman administrator since August 2008.
Her day-to-day duties at UND included departmental oversight of the compliance office, athletics academic services, strength and conditioning, sports medicine, Title IX and diversity-related policy and compliance, emergency management, the summer school athletics aid and degree completion aid programs, oversight of competition scheduling, oversight of human resources, and direct supervision of multiple sports assigned by the athletics director.
Irle also served as the department’s senior staff liaison with various campus entities such as Human Resources, the Office of Admissions, the Housing Office, the Dean of Student's office, the Student Success Center, the Office of the Registrar, the Student Financial Aid Office, University Police, the Emergency Management Office, and the University Counseling Center.
She was also UND’s primary liaison for sport and scheduling regulations with the Big Sky Conference and the Western Athletics Conference (WAC). At the conference level she served as the administrative liaison to the Big Sky Women’s Basketball Coaches Committee and serves on the Big Sky Ethical Conduct and Violations Committee as well as the Big Sky Basketball Championship Committee. In addition, Irle served on the NCAA Division I Swimming and Diving Committee through August 2020.
Irle came from the Tulane University, where she served as the assistant athletics director of business and student services operations.
Prior to that appointment, Irle spent three seasons as the head coach of the Tulane women's swimming and diving team, re-starting the program after a 13-year hiatus. She was named Conference USA Coach of the Year in 2004-05 and 2005-06.
Irle also spent 10 years as the Fresno State swimming and diving coach and was the WAC Coach of the Year in 1993 and 1995.
Other stops for Irle have included the University of Texas and LSU.
