Goodyear, Ariz. —  North Dakota sophomore Ally Rogers finished as the top Fighting Hawk at the Bobcat Spring Invitational completed Tuesday at the Golf Club of Estrella. Rogers finished the 54-hole event with a 77 (+5) to shoot a 235 (+19) and tie for 44th. Rogers' score was her best showing in four spring tournaments and two strokes ahead of junior Jenna Janu, who posted her second 76 (+4) of the tournament during final-round action to pace the Fighting Hawks. She finished with a 237 (+21) total and tied for 48th.

Janu and Rogers helped the team post a 317 (+29) total for the day and finish at 949 (+85), which was good for 14th-place in the 16-team field.

"I like where we are headed going into the Big Sky Championship, but we still need to clean some things up," UND head coach Natalie Martinson said. "We were on the cusp of a good number today, but just had too many big numbers that took that opportunity away. Consistency and avoiding those miscues that lead to those higher scorers will be the key when we get to Nevada in a couple weeks."

Grand Canyon increased their lead in the team standings with the best single-round team score of the event, carding a 286 (-2) to finish at 871 (+7) and win by seven strokes over Portland State (878; +14).

The Vikings' Tara Finigan (213; -3) shot a final-round 70 (-2) to overtake GC's Alexis Linam (214; -2) and capture medalist honors by a stroke.

Freshman Ashlyn Guggisberg was third among the UND golfers in the field, placing in a tie for 54th with a 239 (+23). She closed with an 81 (+9), while junior Hanna Peterson rounded out the final-round scorers for the Fighting Hawks with an 83 (+12). Peterson finished at 243 (+27).

The Fighting Hawks will compete next at the 2018 Big Sky Championships in Boulder City, Nev., April 20-22. This is UND's final season as a league member before it transitions to the Summit League for the 2018-19 academic year.
