OGDEN, Utah-- Senior pitcher Kaylin VanDomelen earned an incredible fifth Big Sky Conference Pitcher of the Week award this season with her honor Monday, the final of the regular season. The reigning league player of the year has 11 weekly honors to her credit as well as she's helped North Dakota to a school record for wins and back to the Big Sky Conference Tournament.
This past week, VanDomelen won both game of the Idaho State series to punch UND's ticket for a No. 3 seed at the league's postseason tourney. Friday, she brought a no-hitter into the sixth inning before finishing with just two hits allowed with nine strikeouts in a 4-1 win. Saturday, she stymied the Bengal bats again, especially with baserunners on. She worked out of several jams and allowed just one run and tallied four more strikeouts en route to her 12th win of the season as North Dakota picked up a 5-1 victory for its school-record 25th of the year.
For the week, she threw 13.2 innings, allowing just nine hits, one earned run and striking out 13 without issuing a walk.
VanDomelen and the Fighting Hawks will open Big Sky Conference Tournament play Thursday against sixth-seeded Northern Colorado. First pitch is slated for 1:00 p.m Central.
