SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- North Dakota senior thrower Katelyn Weber closed out her decorated collegiate career on Thursday at the NCAA Division I Outdoor Track and Field West Preliminary.

Weber, a three-time outdoor all-conference performer in the shot put and the reigning two-time indoor conference champion, competed in her final collegiate meet on Thursday and hit a mark of 48 feet, 8.75 inches (14.85 meters) at Hornet Stadium.

The St. Clair, Minn., native had entered the regional meet seeded 42nd in the West and left with a 37th-place showing.

"I could always count on getting the very best from Katelyn in the moments that counted the most," said UND throws coach Drew Jones. "She is a gamer."

Weber, one of Jones' earliest recruits to North Dakota, entered the weekend with the top shot put all season among Big Sky Conference throwers at 50-4 (15.34m). She holds both the school indoor and outdoor records in the event and was making her second NCAA Regional appearance.

"I told her when she started that she was going to help change the culture for the UND throws group," said Jones. "She certainly has done that and more. A two-time Big Sky champion, a two-time West Region qualifier, establishing both [indoor and outdoor] marks over 50 feet."

Weber closed out her carer having won each of the last two Big Sky indoor shot put titles and reached the podium in each of her last three outdoor conference meets.

"I am extremley proud of Katelyn and cannot thank her enough for trusting me and always giving me her best. She made me a look a lot smarter than I may deserve. I know she will go on to do great things in life and I can't wait to celebrate and support her in those accomplishments as well," said Jones.

The NCAA West Preliminary continues on Friday, with eight more Fighting Hawks competing over the next two days. The first event Friday involving the Fighting Hawks is the men's discus at 2 p.m. Central, featuring redshirt freshman Matt Culhane and true freshman Chris Evenson.
