GRAND FORKS, N.D. -- The University of North Dakota women's hockey team and St. Cloud State skated to a 1-1 tie this afternoon at Ralph Engelstad Arena. The Huskies won the shootout 1-0 in the fourth round.

SCSU got on the board first, but UND freshman Holly Perkins scored a goal in the second period. Perkins scored a nice goal, backhanding the puck into the net. UND's Jorid Dagfinrud had 22 saves in net, as the Sioux outshot the Huskies 32-23.

Caitlin Hogan scored the shootout winner for SCSU who picks up the extra point in the WCHA standings as the Sioux remain winless in shootout attempts in the second year of implementing the tiebreaker.

The Sioux had numerous scoring opportunities in the game but coming off a strong game in the series opener, Ashley Nixon, once again played well in net for the Huskies making 31 saves on 32 shots.

It didn't take long for the Sioux to get one of those scoring opportunities as the home team came out aggressive and only two minutes into the game team-leading scorer Alyssa Wiebe (Saskatoon, Saskatchewan) found herself alone in the slot with the puck. She fired a wrist shot but Nixon was able to make the save with her glove that was heading top-shelf.

Perkins, who returned this weekend after missing five games due to an injury, was impressive in her return this weekend. Early in the first period she was able to force a tripping call as Jocelyn Zabrick hauled her down cutting hard to the net.

The Sioux could not take advantage of that power play or any on the weekend going zero-for-five in the game and zero-for-ten on the weekend.

St. Cloud State struck first on the scoreboard as Alex Nelson was able to snipe a wrist shot past UND netminder Jorid Dagfinrud (Sarpsborg, Norway) on the power play with only 31 seconds remaining in the opening stanza. SCSU would go one-for-seven on the power play in both games of the series.

The Huskies would use six shots on three power-play attempts to outshoot the Sioux 13-7 in the period, but the Sioux would rebound with a dominating 17-5 second period although the score would hold 1-0 through two periods of play.

Perkins was able to even the game at one when she was able to finish a tic-tac-toe play with a backhanded goal as Nixon was sliding the opposite way in the crease. Wiebe started the play and freshman Mary Loken make the primary assist on the goal coming at 3:17 of the third period.

After a scoreless overtime it took four rounds before deciding a shootout winner.
