CHARLESTON, S.C.-- With Valentine's Day still being four days away, Love delivered early and often Saturday as the University of North Dakota softball team broke the hearts of North Carolina A&T, 11-3, in the finale of the Wingate by Wyndham Invitational at Charleston Southern. UND sophomore outfielder Angel Love went 4-for-4 with three extra base hits, three runs and three RBI to power the Fighting Hawks to the win.

"We played a better game, but not a complete one," UND head coach Jordan Stevens said. "We were able to take advantage of what they were giving us and put some runs up, which is always good to see. We are happy with the result but will keep working to make it better."

Love had a pair of triples and a single early then added an RBI double in a four-run sixth to help put the game away due to the run rule. Hitting in the two-hole, her and leadoff batter Kaylin VanDomelen combined to go 7-for-8 with seven runs scored and four RBI with six extra-base hits.

The pair combined to give UND a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first as VanDomelen walked then Love laced her first collegiate triple to left field and later came around herself on Michaela Zins' sacrifice fly. UND added a four-spot in the second, batting around to eventually chase the North Carolina A&T starter. That frame started on a Lexi Mayhood double and followed with consecutive one-out hits from Natalie Gerber, VanDomelen, Love, Marina Marzolino and Taylor Nadler for a dominating 6-0 lead.

A&T pieced together a three-run inning in the third to cut the lead in half but North Dakota got a VanDomelen double and a Love triple to get one back in the fourth. In that final inning, VanDomelen tripled then Love chased her home on her fourth hit, a double to left. After Nadler reached on an error, Ashlynn Uvila punched an RBI single to left, Alicia Young singled then Lexi Mayhood reached on another error to score the fourth run of the inning and place it into the win column for UND.

Hannah Bergh threw six innings without allowing an earned run, squandering just four hits with five strikeouts and no walks for her second win of the season.

North Dakota heads to South Carolina State tomorrow for an 11:00 a.m. first pitch.
