ORANGEBURG, S.C.-- A nine-run first inning was all North Dakota needed in a 9-0 rout of host South Carolina State Sunday afternoon. UND recorded nine hits in the first frame, including a pair of RBI knocks from Taylor Nadler in that inning alone.

The big inning staked UND starter Kaylin VanDomelen to a large lead, but she didn't need it. The senior twirled 4.1 innings, allowing just two hits and striking out a half-dozen without a walk or a run. Her infield converted seven ground balls into outs for North Dakota's third win of the weekend.

"Good way to end the weekend, getting off to a big start today," UND head coach Jordan Stevens said. "But, we've got to learn that getting up and then pumping the brakes isn't going to get us where we want to get. We've got to play complete games."

The first four Fighting Hawks batters all reached to start the game. Kaylin VanDomelen walked, followed by singles from Angel Love, Marina Marzolino and Taylor Nadler for a quick 2-0 lead. Alicia Young doubled in another with four straight singles to make it 8-0 in a hurry. Nadler singled and drove in another run to record two hits and three RBI in the first inning alone.

VanDomelen (1-1) struck out the first two batters and only allowed hits to the three-hole hitter all afternoon. She set down eight straight SCSU (0-1) batters at one point and gave way to Lindsey Harford in the fifth, who got the final two outs.

Natalie Gerber, Young and Nadler all tallied two hits in the win while VanDomelen recorded two runs and two RBI.

North Dakota heads to the Littlewood Classic on the campus of Arizona State University next weekend for five games. UND plays Texas State and the host Sun Devils on Friday followed by Saturday tilts with San Diego and Texas State before Sunday's finale against Illinois State.
