GRAND FORKS, N.D. – University of North Dakota freshman Grant Mismash has been named to the 2017-18 National Collegiate Hockey Conference (NCHC) All-Rookie Team, the conference office announced on Tuesday afternoon.
Mismash, a 6-foot, 185-pound forward, collected eight goals and eight assists for 16 points in 23 conference games to tie for fourth in the league’s rookie scoring race. Those eight goals tied Mismash with junior Shane Gersich for the team lead, while Gersich (21 points) and junior defenseman Christian Wolanin (23) were the only Fighting Hawks with more points during league play.
Voting was conducted by the eight head coaches at each NCHC institution. Coaches voted for six forwards, four defensemen and two goaltenders, awarding first-place votes for six players (three forwards, two defensemen and one goaltender) and second-place votes for the other six selections. Three points were awarded for a first-place vote while one point was awarded for a second-place vote. Coaches were not allowed to vote for their own players.
Mismash was named NCHC Rookie of the Week a league-leading four times and was the NCHC Rookie of the Month for October. The Edina, Minn., native has nine goals and 22 points in 34 games overall this season.
Each of North Dakota’s four previous All-NCHC Rookie Team selections has already gone on to play in the National Hockey League: forwards Tyson Jost (2016-17), Brock Boeser (2015-16) and Nick Schmaltz (2014-15), and defenseman Paul LaDue (2013-14).
