GRAND FORKS, N.D. – The University of North Dakota athletic department announced today the hiring of Aaron Schwenzfeier as a full-time assistant strength and conditioning coach.

Schwenzfeier spent the past two years as an intern coach, working mainly with the Fighting Sioux soccer team and both the men’s and women’s swimming/diving teams. He also assisted with the football team.

As a full-time staff member, Schwenzfeier will continue with his previous responsibilities, while adding on the men’s and women’s track and field/cross country teams.

“We are very excited to elevate Aaron to full-time status,” director of strength and conditioning Nate Baukol said. “As we continue to build onto the program, we are focusing on three key elements: stability, continuity, and experience. Not only has Aaron been with us for the past two years on staff, but he his also a former UND student-athlete. I believe his experience, both past and present, will help the program and the student-athletes succeed.”

A native of Hallock, Minn., Schwenzfeier graduated from the University of North Dakota in 2004 with a bachelor’s degree in physical education and was a three-year letterwinner as a running back for the football team from 2000-03.  He is currently pursuing his master’s degree in kinesiology at UND.

A certified strength and conditioning specialist through the National Strength and Conditioning Association, Schwenzfeier, and his wife, Margo, have a daughter, Eva and a son, Reggie. His brother Joel Schwenzfeier is currently a defensive back on the UND football roster.
