Wysocki steps forward for Sioux at USD

VERMILLION, S.D. - With top runner Emily Emerson (Sr., Lino Lakes, Minn.) sitting out today's USD Tim Young Invitational, freshman Erin Wysocki (Grand Forks, N.D.) took a turn leading the Fighting Sioux cross country team.

Wysocki ran the 5K race in a time of 18:26.01 to place ninth among 48 runners. Wysocki and the Sioux placed third among Division I teams with 72 points.

North Dakota State won the race with 21 points behind individual medalist Heidi Peterson (17:47.27).

The Sioux also received a solid performance from another freshman, Jessica Lindsay. The Grand Forks, N.D., native placed 11th with a time of 18:33.44.

UND will now take a week off before hosting the 2011 GWC Championship on Saturday, Oct. 29, at Ray Richards Golf Course in Grand Forks.
