GRAND FORKS, N.D. -- Paced by the duo of senior Emily Emerson and freshman Erin Wysocki, the Fighting Sioux took runner-up honors today at the 2011 Great West Conference Women's Cross Country Championship at Ray Richards Golf Course.
The Sioux recorded a team score of 67 points, which trailed only Utah Valley (37), which captured its fourth straight women's title.
Judith Chumba of Texas-Pan American won the race with a time of 17:47.26.
Emerson and Wysocki both earned All-GWC first team honors by placing fifth and sixth, respectively. Emerson, a native of Lino Lakes, Minn., clocked a time of 18:14.86 while Wysocki, who was named GWC Freshman of the Year, charted the course in 18:21.44.
Two more Sioux freshmen cracked the top 20. Jessica Lynch (Cologne, Minn.) placed 16th with a time of 19:05.90, while Jessica Lindsay (Grand Forks, N.D.) was 18th with a time of 19:14.10.
