GRAND FORKS, N.D. - The Fighting Sioux women's cross country team has been picked to finish third in the 2010 Great West Conference preseason poll released today by the league office.
UND received 47 points in the voting done by GWC coaches. Defending conference champion Utah Valley was the unanimous preseason favorite, receiving all eight first-place votes and 64 points. South Dakota, with 56 points, was the runner-up.
The Sioux, under 26th-year head coach Dick Clay, return five letterwinners from last year's team that placed third at the 2009 GWC Championship. Among the returnees is junior Katherine Enabnit (Carmichael, Calif.), an All-GWC second team performer last season who placed 10th at the conference meet.

The Sioux open the 2010 season on Saturday, Sept. 4 at the Ron Pynn Classic in Grand Forks, UND's lone home meet of the season. The action gets underway at 9 a.m. at the Ray Richards Golf Course.
