GRAND FORKS, N.D. – The University of North Dakota will host the Big Sky Conference Cross Country Championship in 2014, highlighting next year’s schedule that was unveiled today by UND Cross Country Coach Dick Clay.
The 2014 season will mark UND’s third as a member of the Big Sky Conference and Clay’s 30th at the helm of UND’s men’s and women’s cross country programs. Clay said serving as host of the Big Sky Championship is significant for his program and for the community.
“We’re going to have some of the nation’s top teams – Northern Arizona (men) finished second nationally – right here in Grand Forks. People locally who are interested in running will get to watch something in Grand Forks they wouldn’t normally get a chance to see. Having those elite Division I teams here is going to be exciting for everyone,” said Clay.
UND will host the Big Sky Championship on Nov. 1 at Ray Richards Golf Course in Grand Forks, where it will also host the annual UND Ron Pynn Classic on Oct. 18.
Road meets for North Dakota will include North Dakota State’s Bison Open (Aug. 29), Nebraska’s Woody Greeno Invitational (Sept. 20), and South Dakota State’s SDSU Classic (Oct. 4).
The 2014 season culminates with the NCAA DI Midwest Regional Championship in Peoria, Ill. (Nov. 14), followed by the NCAA Division I Championship in Terre Haute, Ind. (Nov. 22).
