GRAND FORKS, N.D. – University of North Dakota head baseball coach Jeff Dodson announced the addition of Taylor Petersen to his 2012-13 recruiting cl.ass on Friday. Petersen signed a National Letter of Intent earlier in June to play his college baseball for UND.
“We are excited to add Taylor to our baseball program,” Dodson said. “He is a great defensive catcher and will fill a big need for us, which is to give us some depth behind the plate. He is also very knowledgeable of the game, has good leadership skills and that is important because as a catcher, he is involved in every pitch.”
Petersen is coming off a two-year career at Iowa Central Community College where he played in nearly 100 games for the Tritons. Petersen led the team with five home runs as a sophomore and finished with 28 RBI for the second straight season in helping lead ICCC to a 39-21 record.
The Tritons’ catcher had two home runs and 28 RBI as a freshman in 2010. He prepped at Atlantic (Iowa) High School where he played for his father Trace. As a senior, Perfect Game named him an All-Central Regional honorable mention honoree.
Petersen will enroll at UND in the fall and have two years of eligibility remaining at the start of the 2013 season.
