GREELEY, Colo.-- Host Northern Colorado rallied late in game two to secure a doubleheader sweep over North Dakota Saturday in Great West Conference play. After taking game one, 5-2, the Bears got single runs in each of the seventh and eighth innings of the nightcap for a 4-3 victory.

"We gave them three unearned runs," UND head coach Jeff Dodson. "We were uncharacteristically bad on defense today. We had opportunities to get some outs and didn't capitalize. We pitched well and eventually we'll break through this slump that we're in."

UND (10-15-1, 1-6 GWC) had first-inning leads in both games Saturday. A leadoff single by Kris Kwak started the day and Ryan Reese scored the first run of the day on a base knock by Taylor Petersen for a 1-0 UND lead through a half inning.

UNC (15-14, 6-1) responded in both games , grabbing a two-spot in the first game to take the advantage. The Bears added two more in the third for a 4-1 lead. North Dakota had a good chance go by the wayside in the fifth when the bases were left loaded and UNC escaped with the lead before tacking on another in the bottom of that frame.

UND got one back in the sixth on a Jeff Campbell RBI double but that would be the final of four North Dakota hits in the opener. Petersen had a pair of hits to go with Campbell and Kwak's hits, but UND-- who led the Great West in fielding percentage coming into the week-- committed four errors in the first game to lead to three unearned runs.

Tyler Ruemmele took the loss, allowing two unearned runs in 3.2 innings while Reid Jungling pitched the final 2.1 allowing two hits and an unearned run.

In the nightcap, North Dakota jumped all over the Bears in the first inning, plating three. Tyler Follis got things going with a one-out single and scored on Reese's triple to right center. Petersen reached on a throwing error and later scored the third run of the inning on Zack Trygstad's double to right.

Northern Colorado got one in the bottom of the inning, but UND starter Alex Twenge kept the Bears quiet, squandering just two hits over the next four innings to preserve that 3-1 score until the sixth. In that inning, an error produced a UNC run. The Bears would go on to score single runs in each of the next two frames to tie and eventually take a 4-3 lead.

UNC finished it off with a 1-2-3 ninth. UND outhit the Bears 12-6 in the nightcap with four different players charting multiple hits. Trygstad had three with two apiece from Follis, Reese and Campbell.

Patrick Riewer was the tough-luck loser in the second game, throwing two innings without allowing a hit but giving up an unearned run.

The two teams finish the series Sunday with first pitch set for 1:00 p.m. Central.
