NEWARK, N.J.- -Four UND athletes took home All-Great West Conference honors at Monday's pre-tournament banquet. Junior catcher Taylor Petersen was a first team honoree while Ryan Reese, Andrew Thome and Alex Twenge all garnered second team accolades.

Headlining the UND group was Petersen who was part of a first team that had 10 new honorees from a season ago. The transfer from Iowa Central Community College has played in all 44 games, including 41 of those starts from behind the plate this season. He's hitting .301 with team-highs in doubles (11), runs (32), walks (35) and on-base percentage (.464).

Three UND players were second team members led Thome, who was the only repeat all-conference member on the second team. He started his season with the sixth no-hitter in North Dakota history on Feb. 18 and holds a 5-5 record with a 3.89 ERA. The sophomore righty has four complete games and a team-high 71.2 innings pitched. He's struck out 53 batters this season.

Reese is the team's leading regular heading into the conference tournament with a .326 batting average. Despite missing 15 games this season with injuries, the junior transfer has compiled 31 hits and 10 extra-base hits while making just two errors all season, primarily at third base. He's started 29 games this season and his .463 slugging percentage is tops on the team.

Twenge has settled into his role in the starting rotation after filling in behind the plate and out of the bullpen last year. His first full season on the mound has produced a team-best 6-1 mark (4-0 in conference) and a 2.72 earned run average. UND has won seven of the 10 games he’s started and his six wins already rank him tied for seventh in UND’s single-season record books.

North Dakota (23-20-1, 13-11 GWC) opens the Great West Conference Tournament as the fifth seed and will face three-time defending champion Utah Valley in the opening round. The eight-team, double-elimination tourney begins Tuesday with first pitch for UND/UVU at 8:00 a.m. CT at Bears and Eagles Riverfront Stadium in Newark, N.J.
