GRAND FORKS, N.D. - University of North Dakota head baseball coach Jeff Dodson announced Friday the addition of David Cook to his coaching staff for the 2013-14 season.  Cook comes to UND after a three-year stint at Lawson State.

Cook coached at the high school level for two years before joining the staff at Lawson State, a junior college in Alabama. He served as the team's pitching coach for two years followed by becoming the interim head coach this past season.

"I really appreciate the opportunity to join the University of North Dakota family," Cook said. Coach Dodson gave me a great opportunity and I'm looking forward to joining the team this year."

Cook played at Shelton State before transferring to play his final two seasons at Montevallo. He went 7-3 in his two seasons with the Falcons, including a 6-1 mark in the 2004-05 campaign. In his career at Montevallo, Cook struck out 68 in 68.0 innings and walked just 24.

"We are glad to have a guy of David's caliber here," Dodson said. "He is a blue collar guy that will be a great addition to our staff."

North Dakota enjoyed its most successful season at the Division I level, finishing with a 25-22-1 record.  That mark set a new standard for victories in UND's D-I era and North Dakota etched wins in its first two games at the Great West Conference Tournament for the third consecutive season. North Dakota will join the Western Athletic Conference (WAC) in 2013-14.
