LAS VEGAS-- Host UNLV used a pair of big innings to post a 16-6 non-conference win over North Dakota Wednesday evening. The Rebels scored seven in each of the third and seventh innings in the win.

"We gave up two big innings and it's hard enough  to overcome one much less two," UND head coach Jeff Dodson said. "They strung a lot of things together during those innings and we didn't do a good job working out of it.

"We did got a lot of guys on the field tonight that don't normally get a lot of time for us to get some reps as we get ready to get back into conference play."

UNLV (14-6) struck first with a run in the first inning but North Dakota (2-10) answered with three in the top of the third. The rally began with a two-out double by Taylor Petersen-- his team leading sixth of the season-- that scored Dalton Leuschke who had led off with a single through the right side. Junior Jeff Campbell belted a two-run dinger to left center to stake UND to a 3-1 lead.

But, the Rebels batted 11 in the bottom of the inning to leap back in front. Campbell would later blast another homer-- a solo shot to left-- his fourth of the season and third in the last two games. UNLV sent a dozen batters to the plate in the seventh to put the game out of reach.

Brett DeGagne started the game, throwing two innings with two hits and one earned run before giving way to the rest of the staff in a midweek game. Brock Johnson (1.0 IP), AJ Anderson (0.2 IP) and Ellery Bresnahan (1.0 IP) each worked hitless outings from the bullpen.

Campbell finished the game 2-for-5 with three RBI and a pair of homers. Leuschke and Jacob Threlkeld each also had two hits for UND.

UND will head to Bakersfield for a three-game Western Athletic Conference series beginning Friday.
