GRAND FORKS, N.D.University of North Dakota senior outfielder/pitcher Patrick Riewer has been named to the 2014 Capital One Academic All-America® Division I Third Team, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), announced Friday. Riewer becomes the 66th Academic All-America honoree in UND history and 17th since making the transition to NCAA Division I in 2008-09 (second this season, Ronni Munkeby- volleyball).

Riewer, a 4.0 grade point average student majoring in chemical engineering, had a breakout 2014 campaign including several highlight moments this past season. He reached base in nine of 10 plate appearances over a three-game sweep against Northern Colorado in March. It was the first-ever conference series sweep for UND since transitioning to Division I. Since that weekend, he's raised his batting average 119 points and slugged his first homer in a UND uniform, a two-run shot on April 6 at TD Ameritade Park at Creighton University.

On April 29, he made his first start on the mound in a UND uniform and made it a memorable one. The righty, after throwing just three combined innings all season out of the bullpen, went the distance in a 4-3 win at North Dakota State, striking out six in the win. He did not allow a run past the third inning, giving North Dakota its first win in Fargo, N.D. since the 2004 season.

He finished the season with a .219 average with a homer and eight RBI while tying for the team-lead in stolen bases (5). He joins Lowell Schweigert (1978- 2nd Team) as the other Academic All-America honoree in UND baseball history.
