The University of North Dakota baseball team will be conducting a winter clothing drive for the Northlands Rescue Mission on October 20 from 9 a.m. to noon. UND players will go door to door in the Grand Forks community collecting new or gently-used winter coats, sweaters, gloves, hats and scarves.

Donations will also be accepted at the showroom at Rydell's Chevrolet on South Washington St. starting this Saturday, October 13 through October 20.

"We are very fortunate to get the opportunity to provide a little help to people in need with this clothing drive," UND head baseball coach Jeff Dodson said. "Our players and coaches are so lucky to be in a town like Grand Forks that supports our University and its athletics department and we are honored to be able to give a little back."

Last year's inaugural clothing drive was the largest one the mission has ever had. UND helped bring in 376 pieces of clothing and the team is determined to double that with a target goal of 750 pieces this time around.

"Knowing the group of young men we have on our team this year and the generous people around Grand Forks, it wouldn't surprise me at all for that goal to be reached," Dodson said. "We are also thankful to Rydell's Chevrolet for providing us a drop spot for people who we won't be able to reach in our door-to-door effort. It's really amazing how much that company does for this community and it's fun to partner up with people who care about making this a better place."

Rydell Chevrolet is located at 2700 S. Washington in Grand Forks. They can be reached at 866-628-2075.
