WICHITA, Kan.--  North Dakota had the go-ahead run at the plate in the seventh inning, but host Wichita State got out of the threat and scored four in the bottom of that frame to take a 9-3 victory Wednesday at Eck Field. Sophomore Patrick Vandoorne had three hits to lead the UND offense.

"We had a good ballgame going until the 7th inning," UND head coach Jeff Dodson said. "We showed a little more signs offensively today, but they pitched us well all series. We hit into a few double plays that hurt us and they made the plays to win."

Wichita State (11-5) struck first with three runs in the third inning until UND (7-6-1) answered in the top of the next frame. Sophomore Jeff Campbell whacked a two-out, run-scoring single up the middle to score Taylor Petersen.

The Shockers got two more in the fourth but UND again rallied. After back-to-back singles by Vandoorne and Riley Beck to leadoff the inning, Tyler Follis drew a one-out walk and Kris Kwak coaxed a bases-loaded walk for UND's second run.

In the seventh, UND got a leadoff hit from Vandoorne and Follis singled him home to slice the lead to 5-3. After another Kwak base on balls, North Dakota sent the go-ahead run to the plate. WSU reliever T.J. McGreevy was able to induce an inning-ending flyout to end the threat.

In the bottom of that frame, WSU posted four runs-- three coming on a bases-loaded triple. With the sacks packed, Micah Green hit a sinking liner to left that got by and went all the way to the wall to clear the bases. Another run-scoring single followed and the home team went on to the 9-3 win.

Trent Egan took the loss for UND, throwing six innings with six earned runs on 10 hits. Reid Jungling threw the final two innings and gave up his first two earned runs of the season on four hits.

UND collected seven hits: three from Vandoorne, two from Follis and one each from Beck and Campbell.

North Dakota completes its Spring Break trip Thursday with a trip to Creighton. The game has been moved from T.D. Ameritrade Park to the Bluejays' campus diamond.
