NAPERVILLE, Ill. – North Dakota’s Jacob Threlkeld and Texas-Pan American’s Sam Street were honored as the Great West Conference Baseball Players of the Week after their outstanding performances last week.  The award was announced Wednesday by the conference office.

Threlkeld, a junior transfer from Iowa Central CCC and Burnsville, Minn., drove in five runs in a Saturday doubleheader sweep over rival North Dakota State at the Metrodome. In the first game, he went 2-for-3 with a pair of RBI with a triple and in the nightcap, had the huge hit, a bases-loaded double to cap a five-run eighth inning as UND came from behind for a 7-4 win. For the week, Threlkeld notched hits in all four games and hit .417.

He becomes the first UND player this season to earn weekly GWC accolades.

Street, a junior from Melbourne, Australia, struck out a season-high 13 batters while pitching his third complete game of the season. The righthander improved to 5-1 on the season and threw 100 strikes out of 146 pitches.

Others nominated were Chicago State’s James Tucker (RHP), HBU’s Luke Clements (LF) and Matthew McCollough (LHP), North Dakota’s Tyler Ruemmele (RHP), Northern Colorado’s Nick Miller (1B/DH), NYIT’s Robert Loftus (OF) and Texas-Pan American’s Alex Howe (OF).

North Dakota opens conference play this weekend with a four-game series art Houston Baptist beginning Friday.
