GRAND FORKS, N.D. – North Dakota tennis player Callie Ronkowski was named to the All-Big Sky Second Team for the 2013-14 season, the conference announced Thursday. Ronkowski becomes the first UND tennis player to receive a Big Sky All-Conference award.

Ronkowski, a junior from Grand Forks, N.D., led the team in singles wins, going 11-7 on the season, including 7-3 in Big Sky play. She recorded eight singles wins in a row from Feb. 7-March 9, which aided in North Dakota’s five-match winning streak.

In February, Ronkowski compiled two Big Sky Player of the Week awards. The first weekly award came on February 11 after her efforts against Northern Iowa, Creighton, and Western Illinois. Two weeks later, on February 25, she received her second award as Co-Player of the Week for her efforts against Idaho State and Nebraska-Omaha, where she only dropped two games in her two matches.

Ronkowski closed out a successful season with back-to-back road wins over Montana and Montana State. She defeated regular season Big Sky Conference Champion Montana’s Precious Gbadamosi and Montana State’s Paulina Lopez by scores of 6-2, 6-2, and 6-4, 6-0, respectively.

Ronkowski served as co-captain and received the team’s Most Valuable Player and Most Improved Player awards.

She is joined on the All-Big Sky Second Team by Montana’s Laurence Pelchat, Montana State’s Lopez, and Sacramento State’s Alina Soltanici.
