GRAND FORKS, N.D. – The University of North Dakota women’s tennis team concluded its second season in the Big Sky Conference with a 6-13 overall record and a 3-7 record in Big Sky action.

Highlights from the season include a five-match win streak against several conference opponents.

Head Coach Tom Wynne was pleased with the season stating, “Overall, I think we had a solid season. We had a five-match win streak, improved from 11th to 7th in the Big Sky, and had a very solid match with Iowa State.”

Even with the improvements, Wynne acknowledges that there were several matches that they would have liked to win.

“We could have done better if we would have won a couple of 4-3 squeakers against Creighton and Portland State. Portland State went on to a semifinal finish in the Big Sky and we failed to win a substantial match after that loss,” said Wynne.

UND had two seniors on the team this season, Stephanie Biehn (Sherburn, Minn.) and Stephanie Petsis (Toronto, Ontario). Wynne credits the seniors for the improvements during the Division-I transition saying, “their contributions to UND tennis during the transition are appreciated.”

The team is currently wrapping up the year and looking forward to the 2014-15 season. Players are encouraged to work on their games in an effort to compete in the Big Sky Conference tournament next April.

“We have a couple of strong players coming in to replace those leaving and the young girls we had in our line up this year know what to expect next year,” said Wynne.

Junior Callie Ronkowski (Grand Forks, N.D.), Lacey Sprinkel (Minneapolis, Minn.), and Faith Lee (Andover, Minn.) are expected to have strong seasons next year and Wynne believes they each have the potential to become All-Big Sky Conference players.
