FARGO, N.D. -- Junior Shawn Johnson won the shot put and set a facility record today at North Dakota State's Thundering Herd Classic.
Johnson recorded a throw of 52 feet, 10 1/4 inches (16.11 meters) to lead all competitors.
But Johnson was hardly the only UND student-athlete with a notable performance.
Junior Jordan Fisk (Langdon, N.D.) set a school record in the heptathlon with 4,268 points.
Addtionally, freshman thrower Zachary Olson (Owatonna, Minn.) achieved a personal record in the shot put with a mark of 48 feet, 9 1/2 inches (14.87 meters). Olson and teammates Tate Messmer (So., Ortonville, Minn.) and Conrad Schwarzkopf (Fr., Bismarck, N.D.) placed 6-8-10 in the shot put behind Johnson.
Sophomore Nick Lindstrom (Shakopee, Minn.) was the runner-up in the mile, crossing the line in 4 minutes, 22.75 seconds. Teammate Sam Saccoman (Jr., Hibbing, Minn.) was fourth with a time of 4:26.01.
UND is back in action next weekend at the Iowa State Classic.
