GRAND FORKS, N.D. -- A school-record 301 student-athletes have earned a spot on the University of North Dakota Athletics Director's Honor Roll for the recently completed Fall semester for achieving at least a 3.0 semester or cumulative grade point average.

The honored student-athletes, which comprise 65.6 percent of UND's total student-athlete population, will be recognized at Academic Awards Night at halftime of tomorrow's (Thursday, Feb. 14) men's basketball game against Sacramento State.

Sixty-two of those student-athletes achieved a perfect 4.0 GPA during the fall semester, 33 of whom boast cumulative 4.0 GPAs.

"Our student-athletes continue to do an exceptional job in the classroom with another record number of student-athletes being recognized for their academic performance," said UND Athletics Director Brian Faison. "Congratulations to these outstanding young men and women and special thanks to our head coaches and academic support staff for helping them meet the demands of winning in the classroom and in their sport."

UND's student-athletes combined for a collective 3.18 cumulative grade point average through the Fall 2012 semester, the highest in UND Athletics history.

Fourteen teams boasted at least a 3.0 cumulative GPA through the Fall 2012 semester, led by women's hockey (3.566), women's basketball (3.502), volleyball (3.46), women's cross country (3.421), women's swimming and diving (3.406) and women's golf (3.405)

The women's team with the top Fall 2012 semester GPA was women's hockey at 3.579, and the men's team with the top Fall 2012 semester GPA was men's tennis at 3.343.

"I'm running out of congratulatory words," said Amanda Hajdu, UND's Assistant Athletics Director for Academic Services. "Every year our students-athletes outdo themselves academically, and it's absolutely an achievement for our department to be proud of each and every semester. Considering their schedules, this is a testament to their dedication and hard work."
