GRAND FORKS, N.D. -- The University of North Dakota women's and men's country teams have both earned 2012 Division I All-Academic Team honors from the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association, the USTFCCCA announced today.

UND's women's team boasted a cumulative 3.421 grade point average to rank fourth among Big Sky Conference Schools. Southern Miss owned the top women's GPA in the nation with a 3.79, while Idaho State topped all Big Sky schools with a 3.74 mark.

On the men's side, UND owned a 3.225 cumulative grade point average, which also ranked fourth among Big Sky Conference programs. Memphis ranked first nationally with a 3.65 GPA, while Southern Utah led the Big Sky with a 3.41.

A total of 200 women's teams and 145 men's teams were honored by the USTFCCCA. To qualify as a USTFCCCA All-Academic Cross Country Team, the team must have had a cumulative team GPA of 3.00 or better and have started at least five runners at their respective NCAA regional championship.

It is the 16th such honor in the last 17 years for UND's women's program, and the 15th in the last 17 years for the men's program.

UND cross country completed its 28th season under head coach Dick Clay in 2012, its first as a member of the Big Sky Conference.
