Cheney, Wash. - The University of North women's tennis team fell to Eastern Washington University on Tuesday afternoon by a score of 6-1 at the Jim Thorpe Fieldhouse in a Big Sky Conference match.
Eastern Washington earned the doubles point by winning the best of the three doubles competitions. The duo of junior Stephanie Petsis (Toronto, Ontario) and sophomore Callie Ronkowski (Grand Forks, N.D.) fell 8-1 to Moira Hedberg and Chrissy Uriarte in No. 1 doubles.
In singles action, North Dakota's lone winner was junior Stephanie Biehn (Sherburn, Minn.). Biehn defeated Chelsea Patton by scores 6-4, 6-4 in No. 3 singles.
At No. 1 singles, the matchup between Petsis and Hedburg went to three sets. Hedburg won the first set 6-1. Petsis rallied taking the second set 6-4, but Hedburg fought back and won the third set 6-3.
UND falls to 3-9 on the season with the loss.
North Dakota will play Big Sky competitor Portland State tomorrow afternoon at Club Green Medows in Vancouver, Wash.
