GRAND FORKS, N.D. – University of North Dakota tennis head coach Tom Wynne has announced the signings of three student-athletes for the 2013-2014 women’s tennis program in Mikaela Bennett, Faith Lee and Lacey Sprinkel.

Sprinkel of Minneapolis, Minn., is the No. 1 ranked senior from Minnesota. She is also ranked third in the Plains region, which includes North Dakota, South Dakota, Nebraska, Kansas, Minnesota, Iowa and Missouri. Nationally, she is ranked No. 214 and is a three-star player on the Tennis Recruiting Network. She was the 2010 Minnesota State High School League doubles section champion and has one win against a blue-chip opponent, one win against a five-star opponent and 25 wins against three-star opponents or higher since 2012.

“Lacey has a ton of state, regional, and national tournament experience. I think she will be ready for the Big Sky Conference and will be a valuable addition in making us a deep squad,” Wynne said. “She has an all court game and is just as comfortable playing doubles as she is singles which is huge for us.”

Bennett comes from the National Sports School in Calgary, Alberta. She is ranked as the top senior in Alberta and has represented Calgary in many provincial and national events. She is ranked in the top-40 players in Canada and was also a singles finalist and a doubles champion in the 2012 Manitoba Open.

“Mikaela was a highly recruited player and chose UND because she wants to help build a program. She has a big game with a shot-makers mentality,” Wynne said. “The Canadian system is different from ours, but she would be a three-star recruit in the United States. She will be able to step in and play immediately.”

Lee is currently the No. 2 ranked senior from Minnesota and ranked 10th in the Plains region. Nationally she is ranked 330 and is a three-star player by the Tennis Recruiting Network. She has a 16-7 overall record since 2012 including a 6-3, 7-6 (3) win over future teammate Sprinkel on Nov. 16.

“With Lacey, Mikaela and Faith Lee, who signed in the early period, we will be able to match-up depth wise with many of the Big Sky Conference teams,” Wynne said.

UND graduated only two seniors and the three incoming recruits will join a large returning class including its No. 1-3 singles players from this past season.
