GRAND FORKS, N.D. -- The University of North Dakota women's tennis team wrapped up its fall campaign with its annual Green-White scrimmage last Friday, Oct. 25.

Head coach Tom Wynne was encouraged from what he saw out of his squad so far this year.

"The women's team had a much improved fall season over the previous years as the influx of freshmen players and three seniors gave us a fighting chance in all of our matches," Wynne said.

The fall campaign began with the Drake Invite, Sept. 13-15. Stephanie Biehn highlighted UND's appearance in the tournament, winning her first-two matches in the 'C' flight singles bracket.

North Dakota followed up the season-opening tournament with a strong showing at the Gopher Invitational the following week, Sept. 20-22. Callie Ronkowski took second place in the 'Gopher' singles flight. Ronkowski then teamed up with senior Stephanie Petsis for a second-place finish in the 'Gopher' doubles bracket.

UND then traveled to Omaha for the Creighton Invite capturing four top-three finishes. Freshman Faith Lee placed second, while Ronkowski took third in the 'B' flight. Additionally, freshman Lacey Sprinkel downed fellow teammate Biehn in the championship match of the 'C' flight singles.

The team then finished the season with the men's team for the Green-White scrimmage on Oct. 25. The green team posted an 87-80 victory over the white team.

"We need to get tougher in doubles as we were not good in conference play last year, but I'm hoping the new players will give us a few more options," Wynne said.

Overall, Sprinkel led the teams with nine victories and Lee had eight.
