GRAND FORKS, N.D. - University of North Dakota senior Emily Emerson has been named Great West Conference Track and Field Female Athlete of the Week for her performance in California last weekend.

Emerson ran the 800-meters in 2 minutes, 11.99 seconds, on Friday at the Mt. SAC Relays, which was the top time in the Great West Conference this season. It also broke a 2-year old personal record for the Lino Lakes, Minn., native, who placed sixth among the 15 runners in her section.

The following day at Long Beach State's Beach Invitational, Emerson placed 15th among 102 runners in the 1,500-meters, clocking a time of 4:30.30.

Others nominated for the award included Houston Baptist's Tramisha McGrew, Seattle's Katie Tougas and Utah Valley's Maryn Pincock.

Emerson and the Fighting Sioux will return to action May 4 at North Dakota State.
