HOUSTON, Texas - Runner-up performances by senior Christine Weinreich and junior Megan Gray were among the standout performances for North Dakota during the second day of the Great West Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championship.
Weinreich, a native of Pismo Beach, Calif., took second place in the shot put with a throw of 13.63 meters (44 feet, 8 ¾ inches).
Gray, meanwhile, was the runner-up in the heptathlon, finishing with 4,269 points. The St. Cloud, Minn., native, won the javelin during today's competition, while placing fourth in both the long jump and the 800-meters.
Both performers were joined by freshman teammates among the top eight in their respective events. Chantel Urban (Surrey, N.D.) was fifth in the shot put with a mark of 12.57 meters (41 feet, 3 inches), while Ashley Fedie (Chanhassen, Minn.) was seventh in the heptathlon, highlighted by a runner-up performance in the 800-meters.
UND also received points in the long jump, as senior Mikaela Hirst (Bismarck, N.D.) placed seventh with a leap of 5.12 meters (16 feet, 9 ¾ inches).
In preliminary action, senior Emily Emerson (Lino Lakes, Minn.) placed second in her heat and third overall to advance to tomorrow's finals. She clocked a time of 4 minutes, 49.44 seconds. Kirsten Haas (Jr., Belgrade, Mont.) advanced to the finals of the 100-meter hurdles, recording a time of 15.09 seconds and placing sixth in the prelims.
Team scores were not yet available, as the 3,000-meter steeplechase had not yet been completed due to a weather delay. Continue to check back for final results.
