GRAND FORKS, N.D. - The University of North Dakota women's and men's track and field teams have been named 2011-12 Division I All-Academic teams by the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).

UND's women's team boasted a cumulative 3.45 grade point average to tie for 13th among the 171 Division I women's teams honored and second among Big Sky Conference schools. Duke owned the top women's GPA in the nation with a 3.58, while Weber State topped all Big Sky schools with a 3.52 mark.

On the men's side, UND owned a 3.19 cumulative grade point average to tie for 31st among the 85 teams honored and second among Big Sky programs. Stanford ranked first nationally with a 3.49 GPA, while Idaho State led the Big Sky with a 3.30.

In order to be recognized as a USTFCCCA All-Academic team, teams must achieve a cumulative grade point average of 3.00 or higher.

It is the 18th year (all consecutive) UND's women's team has earned USTFCCCA All-Academic team honors, and the 14th time for the men's program. Both teams earned USTFCCCA All-Academic team honors during each year of UND's transition from Division II to Division I.

UND completed its first season under head coach Kevin Galbraith in 2011-12 as a member of the Great West Conference, and joins the Big Sky Conference in 2012-13.
