Gillson, Lindsay nab event titles at indoor opener

MINNEAPOLIS -- Jenna Gillson and Jessica Lindsay won event titles as North Dakota opened the 2013 indoor track and field season today at the University of Minnesota's Northwest Open.

Gillson, a junior from Grand Rapids, Minn., took first place in the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:00.75.

Lindsay, a sophomore who hails from Grand Forks, N.D., won the 800-meter run with a time of 2:20.03.

Team scores were not kept at the meet, which was held at the University of Minnesota Fieldhouse.

Other notable finishes for North Dakota included runner-up performances by Lydia Lutz (Fr., Park Rapids, Minn.) and Rochelle Robb (So., Bull Bay, Jamaica) in the 3000-meters and the high jump, respectively. Lutz clocked a time of 10:41.52, while Robb cleared 5 feet, 2 ¼ inches (1.58 meters).

Robb's teammates, Chelsea Moser (Fr., Willamina, Ore.) and Megan Gray (Sr., St. Cloud, Minn.), placed third and fourth, respectively, in the high jump. Gray also took third in the long jump.

Paige Slemmons (Fr., Fargo, N.D.) placed third in the 60-meter dash.

UND's next scheduled meets are the National Pole Vault Summit on Jan. 19 in Reno, Nev., and the Bill Bergan Invitational on Jan. 26 in Ames, Iowa.
