VERMILLION, S.D. -- Throwers Chantel Urban and Molly Griep recorded Big Sky Conference automatic qualifiers in the shot put, while sprinter Kirsten Haas won the 400-meters today at the USD Open.

The meet was UND's final meet prior to next week's Big Sky Conference Indoor Championship.

Urban and Griep both qualified with personal-record marks in the shot put. Urban, a native of Surrey, N.D., recorded a throw of 44 feet, 9 ½ inches (13.65 meters), while Griep, who hails from Whitewater, Wis., had a mark of 44 feet, 3 ½ inches (13.50 meters).

In the 400-meters, Haas, a native of Belgrade, Mont., crossed the line in 59.83 seconds to narrowly edge teammate Jenna Gillson (Jr., Grand Rapids, Minn.), who clocked a time of 59.85 seconds.

Other notable UND performances included Megan Gray's (Sr., St. Cloud, Minn.) third-place effort in the high jump (5 feet, 3 inches/1.60 meters), and Hailey Brinkman's (Fr., Grey Eagle, Minn.) fourth-place showing in the triple jump (34 feet, ¼ inch/10.37 meters).
