Trio of freshmen throwers nab Big Sky qualifiers

YANKTON, S.D. – North Dakota freshmen throwers Molly Griep, Bethany Schultz and Ke-Ke Burks each recorded Big Sky Conference qualifying marks today at the University of South Dakota’s Dakota Duals.

Burks (Madison, Wis.) and Griep (Whitewater, Wis.) each recorded their qualifiers in the hammer throw, recording marks of 164 feet (49.99 meters) and 159 feet (48.47 meters), respectively. Griep was also the runner-up in the discus with a throw of 149 feet, 10 inches (45.66 meters).

Schultz, a native of Rochester, Minn., hit her Big Sky qualifier with a personal record throw of 143 feet, 2 inches (43.64 meters) in the discus.

Not to be outdone, a pair of distance runners won their respective distance events this afternoon. Senior Lindsay Anderson (Leeds, N.D.) took first place in the 1,500-meters with a time of 4 minutes, 42.61 seconds, while junior Savana Weller (Sauk Centre, Minn.) won the 800-meters with a time of 2:16.88.

Additionally, Jayd Eggert (Fr., Minot, N.D.) and Kirsten Haas (Sr., Belgrade, Mont.) placed second in the javelin and the 400-meter hurdles, respectively. Eggert had a throw of 134 feet, 10 inches (41.11 meters), while Haas’ time was 1:03.75.

UND is back in action next Saturday at North Dakota State.
