GRAND FORKS, N.D.-- University of North Dakota junior co-captain Ronni Munkeby was named to the 2012 Capital One Academic All‐District® Volleyball First Team, selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America, in an announcement released Thursday. The program recognizes the nation’s top student‐athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom. Capital One has been the entitlement rights holder to CoSIDA’s Academic All‐America teams programs since 2011.

The Academic All‐District® teams are divided into eight geographic districts across the United States and Canada. Honorees are chosen from NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II and NCAA Division III participants, while the College Division team combines NAIA, Canadian and two‐year schools. District 6 is comprised of schools located in Arkansas, Iowa, Louisiana, Minnesota, Missouri, Mississippi, North Dakota, South Dakota and Wisconsin.

First‐team Academic All‐District® honorees advance to the Capital One Academic All‐America® Team ballot, where first‐, second‐ and third‐team All‐America honorees will be selected later this month.

Munkeby-- a 4.0 grade point average student in physical education, exercise science and wellness-- is the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) President at UND and a Dean's List member. She was the recipient of the 2011-12 UND Female Sioux Service Award, volunteering for several organizations: including the Big Event, Altru Spin for Kids, Special Olympics, Grand Forks Public Library, Girl Scouts and more.

On the court, Munkeby leads North Dakota in hitting percentage at .291, which ranks eighth in the Big Sky Conference heading into Thursday's action. She has 17 matches with double-digit kill totals and has hit over .400 in a match on seven different occasions this season. The Lisbon, N.D. native notched a career-high 19 kills vs. Montana State in a stretch of seven straight matches with at least a dozen kills earlier this season.

Munkeby and UND prepare for their final homestand Thursday when they host Portland State at the Betty Engelstad Sioux Center. The match will be televised live on Midco Sports Net and Fox College Sports Central (DirecTV 623) and streamed on the Internet on Big Sky TV.
