GRAND FORKS, N.D.-- The University of North Dakota volleyball team recently finished up its Spring schedule and it was a successful one with wins over the likes of Minnesota, Northern Iowa and Iowa State, among others.

The UND Update caught-up with head coach Ashley Hardee to assess the Spring campaign, his outlook for next season as well as a teaser to next year's schedule which features some top national teams making their way to the Betty Engelstad Sioux Center in 2013.

COACH HARDEE ON HIS SPRING
"It was a good Spring for us, some positive results.  As a whole, Spring is about developing young players, making sure those players that didn't spend a lot of time on the court get a chance to develop, in that respect it was a really productive Spring for us."

ON SOME STANDOUTS
"Lisa Parlich broke her hand last Spring but this year she was able to get a full Spring in and that's a positive for us. She got a lot better and improved her game. Emily Thompson had a terrific Spring. Chelsea Moser played a couple different positions for us. We're trying to figure out exactly where she fits in, she's a spectacular athlete. Emily Asche had a great Spring and put herself in position to be a possible starter for us next year. Lauren Clarke averaged well over four digs a game as a freshman, we think she can get to around five and when she does, you're talking about all-conference-type numbers. She anchors our defense back there. Lexi Robinson has gotten a lot better, she makes up for her undersize with her explosiveness."

ON THE DEFENSE
"If we can get back to playing the defense we played a few years ago, we can hang some more championship banners in this gym."

ON THE SCHEDULE
"Obviously our second year in the Big Sky, so we're looking forward to getting back in the mix with those teams but we have some big non-conference matches as well. This will be the year that NDSU returns and we'll also have an SEC and a Big-12 team here for our Fall tournament."
