UND cruises to 10th straight win

CEDAR CITY, Utah-- Visiting North Dakota cruised to a 25-17, 25-14, 25-18 sweep of host Southern Utah Thursday to remain perfect in Big Sky Conference play. North Dakota earned its 10th straight victory with the win and is now 9-0 in the league.

"It was a very solid defensive performance from our group tonight," UND head coach Ashley Hardee said. "That's good to see as we approach the halfway point that we are improving on that side of the ball."

UND (14-7, 9-0 Big Sky) had to fight through a tight first set that was neck-and-neck was was tied 10 times with five lead changes. North Dakota broke free with four straight points to untie a 13-all score and eventually took the first set with seven of the final eight points.

The second set saw UND run out to a 7-1 lead and the visitors ran away with the set, 25-14. In that set, UND allowed SUU (2-17, 1-8) to hit just -.071 with seven kills and nine attack errors to cruise into the intermission up two sets to none.

The momentum stayed on UND's side as a 7-2 run midway through the set put North Dakota on top for good. With the win, UND picked up its 13th win in its last 14 contests.

Seniors Ronni Munkeby and Lisa Parlich led the way by each producing nine kills for North Dakota. Freshman Anna Pioske added eight kills and 14 digs, sophomore Emily Asche tallied seven kills and junior setter Nikki Husfeldt contributed 32 assists.

SUU (2-17, 1-8) hit just .068 and was paced by 10 kills from Kylie Schofield.

North Dakota heads to Northern Arizona for a Saturday showdown. NAU came into Thursday's action at 6-2 in the conference, tied for second along with Portland State and Idaho State.
