GRAND FORKS, N.D.-- The University of North Dakota volleyball team will host a "Green Game" theme for its Thursday home match with Portland State at the Betty Engelstad Sioux Center. The team is joining with the Council on Sustainability (COS) to promote a greener lifestyle and ways to help achieve it.
COS is tasked with creating and improving sustainability practices on campus here at UND. The group's focus is raising student knowledge of the COS and involvement in sustainability practices. The COS will be hosting a booth at the volleyball match in order to gain student interest in sustainability. The booth will be dedicated to recycling, which will discuss what is and is not recyclable.
Over the summer UND purchased solar recycling compactors which produce their own energy and can be networked to alert facilities when the bin needs to be emptied. There will be a Powerpoint presentation on energy efficiency upgrades that the COS has performed on campus such as installation of energy efficient lighting and motion sensors in hallways and restrooms. There will also be a discussion on phantom loads (laptop power supplies, TV's, video game consoles, etc.) and how much energy they consume over the course of a year.
UND will be decked in green for warmups and encourage fans to WEAR GREEN and THINK GREEN for Thursday's televised match with first-place Portland State. First serve is set for 7:00 p.m. and can be seen on Midco Sports Net or Fox College Sports Central (DirecTV 623).
