TOWSON, Md.-- University of North Dakota senior Ronni Munkeby has been named to the 2013 Capital One Academic All-America® Division I Third Team, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), announced Thursday. Munkeby becomes the 65th Academic All-America honoree in UND history and 16th since making the transition to NCAA Division I in 2008-09.

Munkeby, a 4.0 grade point average student as a graduate with a physical education, exercise science and wellness degree, led UND to its first-ever Big Sky Conference regular season championship this past season. The Lisbon, N.D., native was an All-Big Sky First Team member and finished third in the league in hitting (.314).

She killed a career-high-tying 19 balls in the Big Sky Tournament semifinal match against eventual champion Idaho State and was named to the all-tournament team. Munkeby finished her decorated career with 1,111 kills, ranking 12th all-time in program history. Her .293 career hitting percentage ranks third in UND history.

Munkeby is a two-time CoSIDA Academic All-District First Team honoree. She's earned academic accolades from both the Great West Conference and the Big Sky Conference, being named to the All-Academic Teams in both leagues. She is a past president of the UND Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and was the 2012-13 UND Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year.

She joins Karla Danielson (1991- 2nd Team) and Kate Cahill (2002- 3rd Team) as the other Academic All-America honorees in UND volleyball history.

To be eligible for Academic All-America® consideration, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative G.P.A. of 3.30 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at his/her current institution and be nominated by his/her sports information director. Since the program’s inception in 1952, CoSIDA has bestowed Academic All-America honors on more than 20,000 student-athletes in Divisions I, II, III and NAIA, covering all NCAA championship sports.
