GRAND FORKS, N.D.  The Betty Engelstad Sioux Center is getting a make-over, at least, on the inside.

Crews are currently sanding and repainting the BESC floor, updating its look for the basketball and volleyball teams.

Check out the photo gallery at the top of the page that will track the progress. Check back often. We'll update the gallery throughout the process, giving you the first look at the new floor as it's created.

May 13, 2008: The crew begins sanding the floor, removing the old finish and paint.

May 20, 2008: Major sanding has completed. The crew works to finish the edges and other spots across the court.

May 27, 2008: Basic painting of the floor has been completed. The court is finished with a lighter-colored stain. The green out-of-bounds and key have been completed. And two three-point lines  one black, one green  required by the NCAA rule change that added nine inches to the men's line, have been added atop the black half-circle. White volleyball lines have also been completed. Crew continue the stenciling of the out-of-bounds, center and other court areas.

May 28, 2008: Work continues on laying the stencils on the end line, center court and other areas.

June 4, 2008: The floor painting is complete and ready for use. Basketball camps start next week. Before that, however, the floor will be covered for a wrestling tournament this weekend.
