GRAND FORKS, N.D. – North Dakota men’s basketball head coach Brian Jones announced the addition of junior college forward Ryan Salmonson to the Fighting Sioux program on Thursday. Salmonson signed his National Letter of Intent during a special ceremony Wednesday in California where he played two seasons at Cosumnes River College.
The 6-foot-10 Colfax, Calif. native will have two seasons of eligibility to play at North Dakota. This past season for the Hawks Salmonson averaged 9.5 ppg and 5.3 rpg, while helping lead CRC to a 19-13 record. He earned All-Big 8 Conference honorable mention honors and was named the Cosumnes River College Hawk of the Year for his athletic and academic achievements.
“We are extremely excited to add Ryan to our North Dakota basketball family,” Jones said. “He brings a high skill level and workman-like approach to the game that will allow us to continue to make strides as we move into the Big Sky Conference next season.
“His best basketball is ahead of him and we as a staff are excited about his versatility coupled with the ability to now put a more traditional line up on the floor this fall. We needed to address having quality depth in our frontline and with the addition of Ryan to along with the rotation we have in place, we really feel this gives us a great chance of competing throughout the 20 game Big Sky schedule.”
Salmonson averaged nearly 14.0 ppg and 7.0 rpg as a team captain his senior season at Colfax High School. He helped the Falcons to a 27-6 record and Pioneer Valley League title. Salmonson joins a UND front court that is equipped with junior-to-be Brandon Brekke (East Grand Forks, Minn.) and seniors-to-be Jordan Allard (Fargo, N.D.), Doug Archer (Conception Junction, Mo.) and Mitch Wilmer (Warroad, Minn.).
