Grand Forks, N.D. – Senior Troy Huff scored 32 points and grabbed 10 rebounds as the North Dakota men’s basketball team rolled to a 95-77 victory over rival North Dakota State in front of a sellout crowd of 3,142 at the Betty Engelstad Sioux Center.

The double-double was the 11th of Huff’s career, who went for 30-plus points for the second straight game (37 at Wisconsin on Nov. 19).

"Troy was outstanding again for us, but it was an entire team effort," UND head coach Brian Jones said. "These seniors know that we are only going to go as far as they take us and tonight was a testament to what they can do when they are focused and come out with high energy."

Huff went 8-for-12 from the field and 13-for-17 from the foul line as UND (2-1) never trailed in the contest against a Bison team that came in ranked No. 9 in the latest CollegeInsider.com Mid-Major Poll.

An early 10-2 spurt helped the UND cause as Jaron Nash capped it with a steal and a dunk. Nash, a senior transfer from Texas Tech, finished with 12 points, while classmate Aaron Anderson added 18 more for the home team.

NDSU (2-3) would chip away at the deficit and pull within 28-27 with just over six minutes to play in the first half on a pair of free throws by Kory Brown, but, Huff and company would have an answer. This time it came in the form of a 14-4 run that Huff closed out with a 3-pointer right in front of the NDSU bench.

That spurt allowed UND to build a 44-35 lead at the half. The Bison closed to within six after scoring the opening three points of the second stanza, but that would be as close as the visitors would get.

NDSU (2-3) was led by Taylor Braun, who had a game-high 34 points and made 18-of-22 foul shots in a game that featured 57 total fouls and 77 combined free throws. UND ended up 33-for-41 from the charity stripe, while NDSU went 26-for-36.

Anderson went 3-for-4 from the field, making both 3-point shots as UND kept up a trend over the past four seasons that has seen the home team win each time in this rivalry. NDSU managed to make just one of 12 attempts from beyond the arc and that came in the opening half.

Junior Chad Calcaterra had 11 points off the UND bench that outscored the ison reserves 27-11. Huff, Anderson and Nash have all reached double figures in UND’s three games.

NDSU held an early edge in the rebounding department, but as the game wore on, UND pulled to within one of the Bison, who ended up with a 37-36 advantage. Huff was big on the glass down the stretch, capping his double-double in the final minute with a defensive board.

UND also only turned the ball over nine times, while forcing 11 out of the visitors. Senior Jamal Webb paced both teams with a game-high five assists.

The Bison had three players foul out of the contest, while UND only had one.
