Former Fighting Sioux standout women's basketball player Danye Guinn was hired as an assistant coach on May 5, 2010.

A native of St. Francis, Minn., Guinn played for UND from 2004-09 and was a team captain during both the 2007-08 and 2008-09 seasons.

As a senior, she led North Dakota with 140 of the team's total 506 assists and was the top three-point shooter. She finished just one game shy of the UND record 135 career games played and closed her career ranked 21st on the all-time scoring list.

Guinn graduated as the second player in UND women's basketball history to tally 100 assists in each her freshman, sophomore, junior, and senior seasons. She joined Jaime Pudenz (1996-00) on the prestigious list. In addition, Guinn's single-game assist high was just three shy of the school record 15 notched in 1996 Christy Waldal.

She is also one of six players in UND history to record 1,000 points, 400 rebounds, and 400 assists. She finished with 1,098 points, 452 rebounds, and 499 assists. The entire list is as follows: Kristie Boese (1,834 points, 955 rebounds, 409 assists), Tiffany Pudenz (1,622 points, 423 rebounds, 545 assists), Jaime Pudenz (1,614 points, 451 rebounds, 645 assists), Durene Heisler (1,385 points, 511 rebounds, 423 assists), Carissa Jahner (1,170 points, 501 rebounds, 470 assists), and Guinn (1,098 points, 452 rebounds, 499 assists).

After graduating from UND in August 2009 with a degree in physical education and a minor in heath, Guinn worked at Des Moines Area Community College in Boone, Iowa, where she held a variety of positions including: student services assistant, athletics department assistant, housing assistant, assistant women's basketball coach, and camp director.

Guinn is pursuing a master's degree in higher education while coaching at UND.
