North Dakota (0-4) heads to Fargo, N.D. this Friday to rekindle the rivalry with North Dakota State (3-3) at the Bison Sports Arena. UND and NDSU have not met on the court since 2004.

*Mary Perrizo’s floater with 4.4 on the clock proved to be the winner to send UND to the Regional Final.
*Perrizo led all scorers with 19 points in the win.
*After NDSU took both regular season meetings in ‘03-04, UND took out the Bison twice in the postseason (NCC, NCAA Tournaments).
*Last game at Bison Sports Arena-- UND 80, NDSU 71- 3/6/04 to give UND 4th straight NCC title.

North Dakota led with just over three minutes to go in the first half, but host South Florida embarked on a 17-4 run before halftime en route to an 85-58 win at the Sun Dome last Friday.  Junior Megan Lauck led UND with 17 points.

North Dakota will follow the NDSU rivalry with a four-game homestand that concludes with the opening of Big Sky Conference play. UND hosts Air Force on Dec. 4 , Drake on Dec. 8 and Jamestown on Dec. 15. The stretch wraps-up Dec. 20 when Southern Utah opens conference play at the Betty Engelstad Sioux Center.

Junior Megan Lauck has led North Dakota in scoring in three of four games this season, including a 17-point effort at South Florida last Friday. Lauck averages 11.5 points per game this season, tops on the team and tied for 14th in the Big Sky Conference.

Junior Madi Buck leads UND in a host of statistical categories and appears among the leaders in the conference in several thourgh four games. Buck has played the 4 and 5 spots for UND and is tied for third in the Big Sky in assist to turnover ratio despite handling the ball quite a bit amidst full-court pressure. NDSU took third place at the Alaska  Shootout in Anchorage, Alaska ... NDSU fell to the host Seawolves 73-47 and had to rally from down 17 to defeat Prairie View A&M, 61-56 ... Dani DeGagne leads the team with a 13.2 points per game average while Katie Birkel adds 11 points per contest ... NDSU defeated both Harvard and Mayville State to start the season, also UND opponents in the early going ... NDSU ranks 8th nationally in free throw percentage (.806) ... North Dakota State travels to Greeley, Colo., to play Northern Colorado (1-3) on Sunday, Dec. 2.

Just how tough is the schedule to open the 2012-13 season? Three of UND’s first four opponents finished in the top 100 in RPI a year ago. A look at where UND’s first four opponents rank:

According to RPI and Strength of Schedule guru Jeff Sagarin, UND’s 2012-13 schedule thus far ranks eighth in all of NCAA Division I.  UND has played four schools all in the top 102 in RPI:

The University of North Dakota women’s basketball team picked up the Great West Conference regular-season and postseason tournament titles, winning nine straight games to finish 9-1 in league play ... Center Allyssa Wall (North Sioux City, S.D.) was named to the GWC All-Tournament team and was voted the tournament’s most valuable player ... Also named to the all-tournament team was center Emily Evers (Grand Forks, N.D.), who averaged a team-high 13.0 ppg, 5.0 rpg, and shot 74.4 percent from the field ... UND advanced to its first-ever NCAA Division I postseason play, heading to Seattle University for the first round of the Women’s Basketball Invitational (WBI).

The University of North Dakota women’s basketball program holds an 804-313 (.720) record all-time since the first game was played in 1974.

Sunday’s loss to Harvard pushed UND’s record in season openers to 29-8 all-time. North Dakota is now 19-5 in season openers at home, including losses each of the past two seasons. 

Each of UND's first four opponents qualified for a postseason tournament a season ago. In addition, only one of those games is at home for UND (vs. Harvard). Iowa State went to the NCAA Tournament while Harvard, Duquesne and South Florida all competed in the WNIT.

All-time, North Dakota is 437-88 (.832) when it comes to defending its own court. The team played at the  UND Fieldhouse/Hyslop Sports Center before moving into its current home at the Betty Engelstad Sioux Center in 2004-05.

UND was picked to finish fifth by the media and sixth by the coaches in the 2012-13 Big Sky Conference preseason polls. After three seasons in the Great West Conference following its move to NCAA Division I, UND enters its first season in the league.

The top four spots were identical in both polls with Idaho State, the defending Big Sky regular season and tournament champion, grabbing the top position. Northern Colorado was the runner-up with Montana and Montana State slotted third and fourth, respectively, in both polls.

2012-13 SCHEDULE
This year’s slate includes 16 total home games (two exhibitions),10 games against postseason teams (NCAA- Idaho State (2), Iowa State;  WNIT- No. Colorado (2), Drake, Duquesne, Harvard, South Florida, Utah), a re-kindling of the North Dakota State rivalry and the inaugural season of the Big Sky Conference. UND will play each Big Sky foe twice in home-and-home contests to make up 20 of North Dakota’s games this season.
