GRAND FORKS, N.D.-- University of North Dakota head women's basketball coach Travis Brewster announced that Makailah Dyer (pronounced: mick-KY-luh) will be joining his squad after transferring from the University of Wisconsin. Dyer is the cousin of current UND men's basketball player Troy Huff.

"We had her eye on her in high school and with Troy being here, she will fit well with us here and our class as we graduate two seniors this year (Nicole Smart and Carly Rothfusz)," Brewster said. "She changes our recruiting for the future. She has a high basketball IQ and she can score. She's an excellent person, student and basketball player. I'd like to thank my staff and, in particular, Assistant Coach Drew Woods on getting the ball rolling to get Makailah in a UND uniform. We are very excited to have her come be a part of the North Dakota family."

Dyer was a two-time Wisconsin Basketball Coaches Association all-state honoree as a prep. She also earned 2011 Second Team All-State honors by the Associated Press for Coach James Adams at Madison East High School, averaging 24.6 points per game as a senior, ranking second in the state. She racked-up 1,517 points (18.7 ppg) in her prep career and was a three-time all-area and all-conference selection.

The Madison, Wis. native was ranked as the No. 3 player in the state by WisSports.net coming out of high school. As a junior, Dyer averaged 19.8 points, 4.7 assists, 2.3 rebounds and 2.2 steals per game and was a 2010-11 Wisconsin Gatorade Player of the Year nominee.

Her mother, Janet Dyer, and Theresa Huff each played at the University of Wisconsin. Dyer has not played a game in her freshman season (2012-13) and will enroll at UND this coming semester.
