GRAND FORKS, N.D.-- University of North Dakota Head Women's Basketball Coach Travis Brewster announced the signing of Kelsey Knox to a National Letter of Intent Monday during the spring signing period. Knox comes to UND from Johnson County Community College and will have three years of eligibility remaining.

Last season, Knox started the first five games before suffering a season-ending injury, later redshirting. As a freshman at JCCC, Knox averaged 4.0 points, 3.0 rebounds and 2.8 assists per game. Her team went a combined 62-5 during the last two seasons that included back-to-back NJCAA Region VI D-II championship game appearances.

"We wanted to address the needs of the point guard position and experience at the collegiate level. With her and Leah Szabla (who signed in November), I feel that we are stronger,” Brewster said. “Kelsey is a dynamic individual and a competitor that knows success and will be able to contribute right away."

Knox scored over 1,000 career points in her prep career for coach Chris Stubbs. She was selected to the Missouri Basketball Coaches Association and Missouri Sportswriters and Sportscasters Association 4A All-State teams as a senior. Her Platte County squad went 21-6 in her final campaign.  As a junior, Knox led her team to a 28-2 mark and the 2009 Missouri 4A state title, the first in school history. In the championship game victory over Webb City, Knox scored a game high 26 points, hitting 18-of-21 free throws.

"I'm really excited," Knox said about coming to North Dakota. "The girls were so welcoming and I just really loved the campus."

The 5-foot-7 point guard will join a UND squad that loses just two players to graduation for next season and returns four players that started at least 20 games last year.
