OGDEN, Utah-- Eastern Washington was selected as the team to beat in the 2013-14 Big Sky Conference Preseason Women's Basketball Polls released today by league officials. The Eagles garnered six of the 11 first-place votes in the coaches poll and 20 of 30 top nods in a poll of the media. North Dakota was picked eighth by its fellow coaches and ninth by the media that cover the league.

"It shows that we have a lot of work in front of us and that we have to earn our way in this conference," UND head coach Travis Brewster said. "I think we've made improvements from last season. This is a good motivating force for this team that has already seen some success in our foreign tour this summer and has put its best foot forward. They are excited about the opportunity in front of them this season."

The Eagles were followed by defending Big Sky champion Montana, who was slotted second in both polls. Northern Colorado, Montana State and Idaho State were third through fifth in both prognostications.

North Dakota returns eight letterwinners from last season, including a quartet of seniors. All-Big Sky honorable mention pick Madi Buck (who led UND in scoring and rebounding) joins fellow classmates Megan Lauck, Katie Houdek and Allyssa Wall. Three of those returning seniors have combined for 2,190 points in their careers and each have to surpass the 1,000-point plateau this season: Wall (734), Buck (714) and Lauck (692).

The season begins Nov. 2 when UND hosts Minnesota Crookston in the first of two exhibition games. The regular season begins Nov. 10 at Iowa State with the Big Sky Conference Tournament set for Mar. 13-15 at the regular season champion.
