GRAND FORKS, N.D.-- University of North Dakota head women's basketball coach Travis Brewster announced the promotion of Jackie Voigt to assistant coach Thursday. Voigt, the former Director of Operations, slides into the vacancy left by Val Sussex, who is the new Assistant Director of the UND Champions Club.

"The transition from Director of Basketball Operations to a coach should be a seamless one for Jackie," Brewster said. "She fits the mold and she wants to be part of the tradition here at UND. Her experience as a student-athlete at a high level will help our posts continue to grow. Her ties to recruiting in Minnesota, the surrounding areas and AAU programs will be an additional plus for us. Her passion is obvious and she brings energy every single day to help us achieve our goals."

Voigt is a 2012 graduate of the University of Minnesota, where she had a standout career for the Golden Gophers. The Cottage Grove, Minn. native was a four-year starter, averaging 6.2 points and 5.2 rebounds per game. Her numbers rank fifth in UM record books for career defensive rebounds and eighth on the offensive glass. She was a two-time Academic All-Big Ten honoree and twice was the Big Ten Sportsmanship Award recipient.

“I am very excited to be stepping into a new role as assistant coach here at North Dakota," Voigt said. "I am eager to start working with the team on the court, and to have the chance to be able to use my experience as a player to work with the post group. I want to thank Coach Brewster for the opportunity, as I look forward to help continuing to build the strong tradition of success that the women’s basketball team has at the University of North Dakota.”

After her basketball playing career was over at UM, she stepped onto the pitch for the Minnesota soccer team in her senior season, playing a shutout half against Iowa between the posts.

She'll work primarily with the UND posts and will aid in opponent scouting and recruiting.

She was part of a staff that captured the Big Sky Conference regular season and tournament titles last season, finishing 22-10 en route to the program's first NCAA Division I Tournament appearance. Returning posts for UND include All-Big Sky Second Teamer and Big Sky Tournament MVP junior Mia Loyd and senior Emily Evers, who was the league’s sixth woman of the year.
